Yevon
Yevon is a highly religious Sovereign Nation, which is overseen by the Grand Summoner of each generation. Its history is deeply rooted in the strange and sudden appearance of creatures called 'Sin' of seemingly unknown cause.
Yevon's capital city ; Besaid.
Yevon was founded when the first group of Humans to encounter an Embodiment of Sin had their kingdom destroyed by a full embodiment of Sin. That embodiment was stopped by the first Grand Summoner, who was granted the power of the Aeons by the artifically produced 'Crystal of Hope' after it was formed by the first group of 20 Yevonite Scholars, known as the 'Aeons'. They sacrificed themselves using a spell similar to 'Sacrifice' in order to merge with their Eidolons and become ‘Aeons’ - in order to empower a hero from Insomnia, who thus saved Yevon by becoming the first Yevonite Grand Summoner. Yevon’s culture is now to train specialized Summoners, who are much more latently connected to the profession than a normal Summoner or Scholar, and raise new Grand Summoners in case Embodiments of Sin rise up again. Their primary task is to cleanse the region of any ‘impurities’ which might lead to creatures known as ‘Sin’
Zanarkand was founded by individuals who left Yevon shortly after the first battle, believing that Yevon’s own religion was the cause of Sin. As a result, they adopted both the technology of the Al Bhed was well as aspects of magic in order to create a more advanced society - which is much more focused on social aspects, and light hearted celebrations. Zanarkand has many professional sports, and holds many festivals each year - being known as the ‘party’ nation.
These two nations, interlocked - for whatever reason, have a highly concentrated amount of Half Esper, Unsent, and Sin - magical specialists from outside nations theorize that the reason is hidden somewhere deep within the ocean between Yevon and Zanarkand, as there are immense magical readings coming from the depths below - so much so that any expeditionary team sent there does not come back alive, and is not heard from after delving below the depths.
