Balamb Garden Academy
Balamb is a massive, industrial academy that also doubles as a small city. It is ruled by a headmaster - and the headmaster has a group of elite SeeD mercenaries directly under him, to tend to matters regarding the academy and missions. Explorers who wish to register to the Balamb Academy are graced with expert tutelage, and even given access to unique applications of magic that were discovered by SeeD's founder. This tutelage however, comes with additional responsibility. A SeeD member, although they may operate towards their own personal goals - must follow the regulations and rules put in place by SeeD, otherwise they are counted as a rogue agent of the organization, and will be hunted by their peers.
SeeD Edicts:
- When given an assignment, fulfill your duty no-matter what.
- Never interfere in another SeeD agent's mission, or halt progress of their assignment.
- When on active assignment, prioritize the assignment above all else.
- Never disclose information about SeeD to outsiders.
SeeD agents are trained as combatants, trained for subterfuge, disguise, and discretion. It is common for SeeD agents to infiltrate and sabotage the operations of other organizations and countries, depending on contracts granted to them by other parties of nations.
A nation or party may formally request an assignment by paying the Garden, and these assignments are listed by star rank.
1 Star assignment: 10,000 Gil [agents receive 50% split between active squad members on completion.] - Low level assignments, usually involve helping small organizations clear areas of dangerous monsters, aiding small towns, etc. Usually considered 'petty' tasks compared to others, and missions are usuall brief.
2 Star assignment: 20,000 Gil [agents receive 50% split between active squad members on completion.] - Adept assignments, usually involve hunting semi dangerous notable individuals, or establishing an information network.
3 Star assignment: 30,000 Gil [agents receive 50% split between active squad members on completion.] - Dangerous assignments, things like inciting small rebellions, hunting dangerous criminals or warriors, or passive spying for low level classified information. Usually a long term investment.
4 Star assignment: 50,000 Gil [agents receive 50% split between active squad members on completion.] - Very dangerous assignments, where death is a distinct possibility. Usually includes high level bounty hunts, information gathering on delicate topics, and sabotage of military projects and organizations. Usually a long term investment.
5 Star assignment: 100,000 Gil [agents receive 50% split between active squad members on completion.] - Highly dangerous assignments, where death is likely. Usually involves infiltration of a nation and either assasination of key figures, theft of extremely delicate artifacts, or even treason. Usually a long term investment.
SeeD Arts
Trusted SeeD members are eventually taught the 'Stock' magic ability. This at its basest level, allows them to 'Stock' magic via gems of pure Mana, which contain the energetic equivalent of a single particular spell. By attaining these 'Stock Gems' - a SeeD agent is able to consume that gem, and cast the spell in question. At higher levels, the 'Stock' magic art allows a SeeD member to 'draw' their own stock gems out of the latent energy in the world. By doing so, they are granted a random number of Stock gems, for a random spell, once per 24 hours. Even further, when learning the 'Stock Empowerment' ability - a SeeD member is able to use their consumable Stock gems in order to gain a temporary bonus in the midst of battle. Each element has its own bonuses that are applied to a SeeD member upon absorption of 10 Stock Gem of that elemental type, and these bonuses last for up to 5 rounds.
